Affleck to Replace Norton on "State of Play"

Edward Norton has dropped out of the film and Ben Affleck is set to step into Norton's role, which will be directed by Kevin Macdonald.

The news of Norton's departure follows the high-profile exit in November of Brad Pitt, who left the production citing script concerns. Norton's reasons for jumping ship are said to be due to timing. When Pitt chose to leave the Russell Crowe was quickly recruited to replace him, this meant that filming was pushed back. This clashed with Norton's commitment to star in and “Leaves of Grass” an independent comedy written and directed by Tim Blake Nelson.

Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright Penn and Jason Bateman will co-star with Affleck and Crowe. Source
